Forced lockout is necessary to ensure the safety of workers in very high risk situations where a simple mistake may be fatal. Despite the rigorous steps and procedures that have been carefully thought through in advance, it is impossible to impose that they be followed down to the smallest detail. They can be bypassed intentionally. The padlock can be removed prematurely before work on the equipment in question is completed!
But not in the case of forced lockout!
What is interlocking? These are locks permanently attached to the equipment whose keys are trapped (ex : KIRK INTERLOCK, RONIS or other). The lock keys are released one by one and, at the same time, securing the equipment and forces the operator to follow the procedure in the order pre-established by the preventionist in advance. Hence the term “forced lockout”!
